17th September 1950, this day is marked as the birthday of Narendra Damodardas Modi who is known to be the most influential individuals in the world.
He is now serving as the 14th Prime Minister of India.
Born to a Gujarati family in Vadnagar, Modi helped his father sell tea as a child and has said he later ran his own stall. He was introduced to the RSS at the age of eight, beginning a long association with the organization. Modi left home after finishing high-school in part due to an arranged marriage to Jashodaben Chimanlal, which he abandoned and publicly acknowledged only many decades later.
Modi travelled around India for two years and visited a number of religious centers before returning to Gujarat. In 1971 he became a full-time worker for the RSS. During the state of emergency imposed across the country in 1975, Modi was forced to go into hiding. The RSS assigned him to the BJP in 1985 and he held several positions within the party hierarchy until 2001, rising to the rank of general secretary.
As the Prime Minister of world’s fastest growing country, he managed to receive high approval ratings. In fact, he received an overall rating of 87% in a Pew Research poll, with 68% of them rated him as “very favourable”.
Personal Life of India’s Prime Minister
Modi’s marriage was arranged by his parents when he was just a child. At the age of 13 he was engaged to Jashodaben, she married him at the age of 18.
Modi kept his marriage a secret for most of his career. If he didn’t do that, he wouldn’t be able to become a “pracharak” in the puritan Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
If we speak of his personality, you’d be surprised to know that he is an introvert and a workaholic. He is also known to be a “fashion icon” for his crisply-ironed kurta.
