How to treat COVID-19 At Home

COVID-19 has been running havoc and taken several human lives worldwide. The majority of cases have been witnessed in India, where the mortality rate has been on a ridiculous increase.

Majority of people who get infected with COVID-19 experience mild or asymptomatic symptoms.- This is the initial stage, and the patient doesn’t have to rush to the hospital at this very stage because he/she can get treated at home. Here, we will be discussing how to treat COVID-19 at home. But, before starting the treatment, it is necessary to know the symptoms of COVID-19.

Symptoms of COVID-19

Below are some of the most common symptoms of COVID-19.

  • Fever where the temperature ranges between 99 to 103 and skin which feels hot to touch
  • A continuous cough
  • A loss of smell and taste
  • Shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Aches and pains

If you are experiencing any of the above-mentioned symptoms, then you have been stuck with COVID-19. Now let us move ahead and discuss what home remedies you could consider to fight the initial stage of the virus.

The home treatment

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes a mild illness as having “any of the various signs and symptoms of COVID-19 (i.e. fever, malaise, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, cough, etc.) without shortness of breath, abnormal chest imaging, or dyspnea.”

Further, they have suggested that a person can treat the initial symptoms at home and keep their doctor updated with their health. Generally, a person who has COVID-19 should,

  • Stay at home until a doctor clears them to contact others
  • Avoid meeting with other people at your home as much as possible
  • Wash their hands frequently and cover their cough and sneezes to avoid the spreading of bacterias
  • Wear a mask regularly, especially when they are in close contact with other people
  • Get vaccinated at the earliest to avoid deterioration in their condition

Apart from the mentioned points, below are some other key aspects you need to consider while staying at home.

Hydration

Always keep yourself hydrated. Going the ayurvedic way, start having warm water with dry ginger and tulsi leaves. To prepare this mixture, boil some water in a pan with one inch of dry ginger until it gets reduced to half of its quantity. Now, add some tulsi leaves and drink the mixture multiple times a day.

Food

Always try to have freshly cooked and warm meals. Also, make sure that you include moong dal soup or rice gruel without the use of salt or oil in your meals. Leave the stomach half-empty after every meal and never overeat. You should have your dinner before 7 PM.

Fruits

When you are in the initial stage of COVID-19 or asymptomatic, try to have fruits like Pomegranate and Grapes. But, if you have symptoms don’t have these fruits.

Vegetables

Do not have raw vegetables, instead have well-cooked ones. Try having bitter vegetables like ash gourd, bitter gourd, etc. Do not eat much tomato, potato, eggplants, and bell peppers.

Spices

Spices do possess some antioxidants and have the power to heal. Therefore, add spices like pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and star anise (Chakri Phool). Also, include dry turmeric and ginger in your meal.

Sleep

Try to get 8 hours of sleep every night without fail. Also, ensure that you don’t fall asleep during the day.

Exercise

In case you are feeling fatigued or tired, do not perform any physical activity. Just do Pranayama for 30 minutes at least.

Make use of Herbs

Herbs are very beneficial when it comes to curing diseases. If you have a cough, have one tablespoon of honey with black pepper powder twice or thrice a day.

If you are having uneasiness in the throat, chew Vyoshadi Vatakam multiple times a day.

In case of throat pain and congestion, do a hot water gargle with rock salt and dried turmeric powder mixed in it.

Relax

Relax as much as you can. Do not let your mind get filled with unwanted things or pressure. Be calm, read books, listen to soothing music and do things that cheer you up and feel relaxed. Meditation is a piece of mind, therefore include meditation in your daily routine. Also, avoid smoking and Alcohol.
