A person’s gestures, facial expressions, voice tones, and other postures are powerful tools for communication. Today we will see how we can use and read someone’s body language to develop better relationships at both the workplace and home. But before moving further we must understand the following-

What is body language?

The key factor to get success in both professional and personal relationships depends upon our ability to the establishment of proper communication. It does not only indicate verbal but it also counts non-verbal communication by “body language” which is louder than speaking. Body language is generally the usage of expression, mannerism, and physical behavior to communicate nonverbally, often people do instinctively rather than consciously.

All of our nonverbal behaviors the postures, gestures, voice tones, eye to eye interactions create strong messages. These nonverbal communication tools can easily gain trust, engage people’s attention towards you, or they can undermine, confuse, and offend what you want to express.

The Significance of Nonverbal Communication:

A person’s communication signal could be your listening style, movement, observation, and reaction. All these factors are enough to judge how you communicating, whether in good care or not. While your nonverbal signs fit with your saying words, they enhance faith, clarity, and build a rapport easily with others. When it does not goes correctly, persons could generate confusion, mistrust, and tension.

This nonverbal communication can develop five vital roles-

  • Repetition: It repeats and boosts up your verbal message.
  • Contradiction: It shows how contradiction happens against your conveyed messages like facial expression mostly expresses more vivid messages than speaking words.
  • Substitution: It could substitute for a verbal message.
  • Complementing: It indicates a complement on verbal messages.
  • Accenting: It might underline or accent a verbal message.

Different Types of Nonverbal Communication:

There is a wide number of nonverbal communication and different body language expressions that help us to increase our communication skills.

  • Facial Expressions:

A human being’s face is excessively expressive and it can express uncountable emotions without saying any word quite easily. Unlike other nonverbal communication, facial expressions are completely universal.

  • Posture and Body Movement:

Now on count your perception of how people are affected by the regular habits like a way of sitting, standing, walking, or holding the head. All these common habits automatically carry enormous information about your internal mind status.

  • Gestures:

Gestures automatically happen in our daily lives while you wave your hand, point fingers, beckon, or your animatedly speaking practices. However, the meaning of gestures often also varies from one country to another across different cultures. For an instance, the “Ok” sign made with our hands is a positive signal in English-speaking countries. On the other hand, it counted as an offensive sign in nations like Brazil, Russia, and Germany.

  • Eye Contact:

Eye contact is a very important tool of non-verbal communication that dominant the visual sense. Your way of looking at anyone or anything could easily be said your interest, attraction, hostility, anger, happiness, or affection.

  • Touch:

Through touch, we often communicate with our dearest ones. It also indicates different messages through our touches like a warm bear hug, a weak handshake, a patronizing tap on the head, controlling the grip on the arm, and more.

  •  Space:

Do you have ever felt uneasy while conversing with other people because of the other person talking with you too closely? If yes! Then you already knew that we must make a physical space, though it might vary according to the situation, relationship, and culture. This is also a vital body language that reflects our intimacy with the opposite people, aggression, affection, and dominance.

  • Voice:

Voice is not only what you are saying but it also shows how you are saying. While you giving a lecture, other people do not just listen to your saying words but they also give attention to your taking time, pace, volume, pitch, tone, inflection, and sounds like “uh-huh” and “ahh” that convey your understanding.
