Hima Das: The Golden Girl of India
In order to become a champion, you need to work your way to the top, and that’s what Hima Das did.
Known as the golden girl of India, Hima Das is an ultimate example of “girls can do anything”.
Brought up in a family of farming background, Hima Das is known to be having 5 gold medals in just 19 days to her name. Born in Kandhulimari village in the state of Assam, she has always been into sports.
Talking more about her, you’d be surprised to know that she holds the current Indian national record in 400 meters with the timing of 50.79 s that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. She is the first Indian to win a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championships.
She doesn’t end there, on 2nd July 2019; she won a gold medal in 200m Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland with a time of 23.65 seconds. Just after that, she won another gold medal at the Kutno Athletics Meet, which was also held in Poland on 7th July 2019 with a time of 23.97 seconds.
In 2018, she was conferred with Arjuna Award by the Indian President on September 25th. Along with that, she was appointed as India’s first-ever youth ambassador of UNICEF-India on 14th November 2018. Later on, she was also appointed as the Assam’s brand ambassador for sports by the Government of Assam.
